Penguin Academy is an educational app for children ages 2–6. We built it the way we would want an app built for our own kids: no ads, no third-party trackers, no accounts, and no personal data collected by us. This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not do with information.
Penguin Academy saves the following locally on your device:
We (the developer) have no access to any of this. Deleting the app deletes this data from your device.
Penguin Academy uses Apple’s CloudKit to sync your child’s content between your own devices, so a painting made on an iPad is waiting on the iPhone. This is what syncs:
Where it goes. Into the private database of your own iCloud account. Apple stores it under your Apple Account, subject to Apple’s Privacy Policy. It does not pass through, and is never stored on, any server operated by us.
What we can see. Nothing. The private database is not accessible to the developer of an app. We cannot read, export, or recover your child’s content, and we receive no reports about it.
What is not synced. Cached files, and settings that are meant to be specific to one device.
Your controls. In the app, behind the parental gate, under For Parents → Manage Profile Data, you can:
You can also sign out of iCloud, or disable iCloud for Penguin Academy in Settings → [your name] → iCloud, at any time.
Requirement. Sync only happens if you are signed in to iCloud. The app works fully without it.
Penguin Academy does not use the microphone.
With your permission, the app can save images (such as your child’s writing posters and artwork) to your device’s photo library so you can keep and share them. The app uses Apple’s “add-only” photo access: it can add the images it creates, and it manages its own album, but it does not browse or collect your existing photos.
The app may download app content (such as video files) from a content delivery network. Like any internet connection, this involves standard technical information (such as an IP address) being processed by the network provider to deliver the content. This is not used by us to identify or track anyone.
The app also connects to Apple’s iCloud and App Store services, as described above and below.
The app registers for silent background notifications from Apple. These are used only to tell the app that new content is waiting in your iCloud, so sync stays current. No notification is ever shown to you or your child, and no notification content is sent by us.
Penguin Academy offers optional subscriptions, handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Payment is processed by Apple; we never see your payment details. All purchase screens are protected by a parental gate so children cannot make purchases on their own.
Penguin Academy is designed for children, and we take that seriously:
Because we collect no personal information, there is no personal information for us to disclose, sell, or delete. To remove synced content, use Delete all iCloud data in For Parents, as described above.
If the app’s data practices ever change, we will update this policy and change the effective date above before those changes take effect.
